A New Planning Scheme for Townsville
Townsville City Council has commenced preparations of a new planning scheme. Developing one planning scheme will ensure that there is a consistent standard for development across the newly amalgamated local government area of Townsville.
Council currently administers two Planning Schemes, one for the former Thuringowa local government area and the other for the previous Townsville local government area. The new planning scheme will affect how growth is managed and provide consistency as to which valuable features and values need to be protected. The new planning scheme will also provide a clear vision and direction for the growth of the city and ensure the protection of our current lifestyle that makes Townsville unique.
Extensive consultation with the community is seen as vital in ensuring that the new planning scheme reflects the overall city's vision, values and priorities. The first phase of community consultation for the new planning scheme will align with the Community Plan's community engagement program, Speak Up Townsville. You can have your say to help shape the city's future through the SPEAK UP TOWNSVILLE consultation.
Updates on the development of the new planning scheme will be posted on this site at regular intervals.
